"The Tarot Tie series combines my interests in symbolism with
my love of beads and the expression of the male form. A tie is
often a man's only expressive article of clothing, and it happens
to be a good scale for bead embroidery. The series began when I
was presented with the challenge to "bead a birthday." At that
same time, I learned of a life-cycle system for tarot cards, and
was given a tie as a birthday present. Hence, The Birthday Tie
of Death. Clothing, ties particularly, have a transformative
power when worn. The Myth Ties series depicts Greek stories of
god and man interaction, while the tarot ties are used here to
show a life cycle of changes."
