"Beads come in many wonderful colors and finishes, but they still provide a
limited palette. I find the symbolic use of color to be a driving force while
sketching the designs, so the tarot is a good vehicle for the bead choices. As a
meditative tool, the tarot is hand in hand with the meditation brought about
through the process of beadwork."
"I have been working with beads for over ten years, yet it seems to be longer than
that. A bowl of red seed beads once sent me into visions that may have been from
a past life. More likely, from exhaustion. how does someone with a frenetic
energy control something as tedious as sewing beads onto cloth? They just seem to
go together. And if beads are used to control, then it makes sense to me that many
of my subects are sexual, and that surely goes back many more years than I have
experienced."
"I have seen many artists use beads to depict the Tarot. The beads seem to contain
that mystical world of divination, as if each glint off the glass could be a glimpse
of magic. The archetypes that appear in the deck of cards find parallels in our
societies, while cultural forms of expression often share the same Tarot origins.
I've been exploring such thems in a series of Tarot Ties as a way to find meaning
in symbols and to symbolize my own meaning. My journey through the Tarot is
now aided by the beads, sequentially and singularly. One hole at a time."
